32-year-old Indian dies in US store shooting

A 32-year-old Andhra Pradesh native in the US died Sunday of gunshot wounds inflicted by a robber who attacked him at the counter of a gas station convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, the previous day
CCTV footage of the crime shows the assailant shooting D Gopi Krishna, whose family is from Yajali in Karlapalem mandal of Bapatla district, at close range before hopping over the counter to reach the cash till.Gopi, who had an Indian engineering degree with which he hoped to land a proper job, was employed at the store counter when he was shot and critically wounded. He died hours after being hospitalised.
D Laxman, Gopi’s uncle, told TOI that the young man with a wife and a one-and-a-half-year-old son travelled to the US eight months ago for job opportunities. He was staying with a relative.
Gopi’s body will be flown to his hometown on Wednesday, Laxman said. Srikanth Damarla, a family friend, is raising funds on GoFundMe to help pay for repatriation of the body and other expenses. “Gopi was a caring, hardworking individual who had been there for his loved ones. He had a heart full of aspirations,” Srikanth said.
