Kottayam: A geologist from Kottayam is feared trapped inside an under-construction tunnel collapse after a landslide blocked its entrance and triggered a suspected gas leak in Sikkim’s Namchi on Monday.

Anish Mohan, 43, a native of Illivalavu in Manarcad, is among those feared trapped. He has been working with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) since 2010 and currently serves as manager, remote sensing.Relatives were informed of the incident on Monday night, said Beena Baiju, his cousin. Only Anish’s aged parents are currently at home in Kottayam; his mother is undergoing dialysis.His younger brother, Binesh Mohan, who is working in Dubai, rushed to Delhi on Tuesday. Anish’s wife, Sangeetha, who was staying at her parental home in Tripunithura following childbirth, also left for Delhi.Anish completed his graduation and postgraduation in geology from Govt College, Nattakom, between 2001 and 2006.The family is awaiting further updates from Sikkim. Anish is also a popular science vlogger.
