US more cautious on global commitments since Obama: Jaishankar as US Presidential results pour in | India News

Date:

NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said that the United States is expected to adopt a more inward-looking stance, irrespective of its next president’s identity.
He said that the election outcome would unlikely alter the established pattern in American foreign policy at an event in Canberra.
“Probably starting from (President Barack) Obama the US has become much more cautious about its global commitments,” said Jaishakar.
“President Trump may be more articulate and expressive in that regard,” he added uring a discussion alongside Australian and New Zealand foreign ministers.
EAM further said that its important to view American policy through a national lens rather than solely through ideological perspectives of current administrations.
“If we are truly analysing them, I think we have to prepare for a world where actually the kind of dominance and generosity which the US had in the early days may not continue,” said Jaishankar.
