In an audacious artistic endeavor, two Delhi-based artists have orchestrated a compelling visual narrative that marries the ornate aesthetics of 10th-century miniature paintings with contemporary wedding photography—all through the seemingly quotidian lens of an iPhone 16 Pro Max.
“I loved the idea of drawing inspiration from traditional miniature paintings from the 10th century and giving them a modern twist to make collages brimming with life,” says Sheehij Kaul, the collage artist behind the project’s mesmerizing compositions.
Working with photographs by renowned fashion photographer Vansh Virmani, Kaul transformed intimate moments from Bengali, South Indian, and North Indian wedding ceremonies into contemporary art pieces that honor their historical roots.
For Kaul, the iPhone 16 Pro Max proved to be a “real revelation,” with its sophisticated macro photography and high-fidelity cutout features enabling seamless artistic manipulation. The phone’s intuitive editing tools opened new creative possibilities, allowing her to craft intricate compositions with unprecedented ease.
Virmani, who shot the original photographs, describes working with the phone as “an extension of his vision.” The 48MP Ultra Wide camera and 5x Optical Zoom capabilities allowed him to capture both sweeping ceremonial scenes and delicate emotional moments with remarkable precision, while features like Photo Cutout made on-the-spot creative decisions smooth, she says.
