NEW DELHI: After a brilliant second innings 161 in the first Test in Perth, Yashasvi Jaiswal had low scores of 0, 24, 4 and 4 in the next two Tests in Adelaide and Brisbane.
But the young Indian opener looked in superb touch on the second day of the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia at the MCG on Friday.
Looking set for a big knock, Jaiswal reached his fifty off 81 balls with 7 hits to the fence.
But just as the last hour of the day’s play began in Melbourne, disaster struck for India in the form of a run out.
At strike on 82, Jaiswal had a mix-up with Virat Kohli and was run out.
Scot Boland bowled a full delivery on off stump that Jaiswal drove it straight to mid-on and set off for a quick single.
But Kohli just stood near his crease, ball-watching. Australia captain Pat Cummins attacked the ball and hurled in a throw but missed the target at the striker’s end.
Aussie wicket-keeper Alex Carey ran in, collected the ball and ran upto the stumps to effect the run-out.
An unhappy Jaiswal indicated to his senior partner that it was his call before walking off.

Jaiswal and Kohli added 102 runs for the third wicket and the dismissal sparked a mini-collapse for India.
