Sridhar Vembu steps down as Zoho Corp CEO to focus on AI research

Date:

CHENNAI: Sridhar Vembu has stepped down as the chief executive of Zoho Corp to focus more on the research and development of artificial intelligence products. Vembu would take up a new role as the chief scientist, he said in a X post on Monday.
Zoho co-founder Shailesh Kumar Davey has been named as group CEO while Tony Thomas will lead Zoho US and Rajesh Ganesan will head ManageEngine division.
“In view of the various challenges and opportunities facing us, including recent major developments in AI, it has been decided that it is best that I should focus full time on R&D initiatives, along with pursuing my personal rural development mission,” Sridhar Vembu stated.

He has been talking about the potential economic disruption of AI, especially in the software industry.
Zoho should reinvent itself to sustain longer, he said in March 2023, adding, “AI going to increase the productivity tremendously but that doesn’t mean software industry will benefit from that.”
