SC notice to Telangana over ‘delay’ in deciding disqualification pleas of BRS MLAs | India News

Date:

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Telangana government and others over pleas alleging a delay by the assembly speaker in deciding on the disqualification of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs who defected to the Congress.
A bench comprising Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih sought responses from the state government, the speaker’s office, the Telangana legislative assembly secretary, the Election Commission of India, and the defected lawmakers. The matter has been posted for hearing on March 25.
One of the petitions challenges the November 2024 order of the Telangana high court regarding the disqualification of three BRS MLAs who joined the ruling Congress, while the other plea pertains to seven more legislators who defected.
