MM Keeravani brought to India the much-awaited global recognition with an Oscar win in the best original song category for ‘Naatu Naatu‘ from SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’. The musician was celebrated across the country for the prestigious win, however, he recently admitted that the song for which he received the award was not one of his best works.
Having worked on global blockbusters like the epic ‘Baahubali’ series, Keeravani reflected on the global success and told Indian Express, “See, late or early, the global recognition has come to a song which is not my best.That much I can say. But, when the recognition has to come, it will come somehow, from any corner. But late? Sometimes you feel it’s late because your lifespan is fixated, that’s how it is termed as late or early, when your life span is not fixated, it comes when it has to come.”
MM Keeravani’s latest work is the music composition for Ajay Devgn and Tabu’s upcoming Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, which is directed by Neeraj Pandey. Speaking about the collaboration, Keeravani stated that music composers often attempt to impress filmmakers with their work, but he personally never felt the necessity to do so with Neeraj. He mentioned that there was no hypocrisy or pretence in their professional relationship.
At the 95th Academy Award, held in March 2023, MM Keeravaani delivered a heartwarming speech. “I grew up listening to the Carpenters and now here I am with the Oscars. There was only one wish on my mind and so was Rajamouli and my family’s. RRR has to win, the pride of every Indian and, must put me on the top of the world.”
