“I am endlessly grateful to AEW”: Former WWE star reveals why AEW is the best thing that happened to them! | WWE News

Date:

While WWE becomes a dream destination for many wrestlers, many find solace outside it. Former WWE superstar Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks, recently reflected gratitude upon her fortunate transition to AEW. Apart from a massively successful and influential run in WWE, acquiring multiple championships and main-eventing the most significant events in the company like WrestleMania, the female wrestler’s walkout was also notable. Mone left WWE due to creative differences but did not leave the wrestling dream behind; to cement her legacy further, she stepped into AEW to reignite the wrestling spark left inside her, and her recent post suggests that the choice she made was truly fruitful.

Joining AEW: A career revival

While reflecting on her first year at AEW, the reigning TBS champion went all out to show her gratitude towards the promotion for bringing back the wrestling spark again in her life after her abrupt departure from WWE. Mone took to her X account and tweeted, “Time truly does fly, and I can confidently say this has been one of the most transformative years of my career. AEW has reignited my fire, passion, and deep-seated love for this sport. It has been a beacon of hope for me, and I am endlessly grateful to AEW and Tony Khan for this opportunity! I am privileged to share the ring with the absolute best women in the world—strong, fierce competitors who push me to elevate my game day in and day out. And let’s not forget the men; their relentless drive inspires me to strive for greatness beyond compare.”
Upon signing with AEW in 2024, the former WWE star expressed her newfound enthusiasm for wrestling. Mone might be a comparatively new emerging figure in AEW, but her achievements during this short amount of time have been praiseworthy, including her NJPW appearances since 2022. She is the first and only female wrestler to have acquired championship titles across WWE, AEW, and NJPW.

With many more opportunities on the horizon for an extremely skilled female wrestler, catch her next bout on April 6 against ROH women’s champion Athena at AEW Dynasty.
