Irdai moots internal ombudsman

MUMBAI: Insurance customers will soon find it easier to get complaints resolved without having to knock on external doors. In a move designed to improve the industry’s internal complaint-handling mechanisms Irdai has released a draft proposal for the appointment of internal insurance ombudsmen within insurance companies that will institutionalise an in-house redressal process that is independent, standardised, and legally binding. The move follows multiple rounds of stakeholder consultation over the past year.
