The superstar was honoured for his role in the 2023 blockbuster film ‘Jawan’, directed by Atlee.The moment was special not just for his family and friends but also for all his fans across the country. Among those who celebrated his win was politician and author Shashi Tharoor. Known for his eloquent vocabulary, Tharoor kept it short and sweet this time. He wrote on social media, “A National Treasure wins a National Award! Congratulations.”

SRK gives witty reply to Tharoor

SRK didn’t miss the opportunity to add his trademark charm to the moment. Replying to Shashi Tharoor in a humorous way, SRK tweeted, “Thank u for the simple praise Mr Tharoor… Would not have understood something more magniloquent and sesquipedalian… ha ha.” Fans loved the witty back-and-forth, especially how SRK channelled Tharoor’s own style.

SRK says award was long overdue

Despite being one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan had never won a National Award, until now. His performance in ‘Jawan’ finally earned him this long-overdue recognition. Reacting to the win, SRK shared a heartfelt message in a video. “Namaskar and Adab. Needless to say I’m overwhelmed with gratitude, pride and humility. To be honoured with the National Award is a moment that I will cherish for a lifetime.” He added, “Thank you so much to the jury, the chairman and to the INB ministry and to everyone who thought I was worthy of this honour.”

SRK thanks his fans and family

In his acceptance speech, the actor made sure to thank everyone who supported him—from the government to his family and film teams. He said, “This award is for you, as each award is. And yeah, I would love to spread my arms for you and share my love, but I’m a bit indisposed. But don’t worry, just keep the popcorn ready. I’ll be back in theaters and soon on the screen. So till then, just with one hand. Ready!”SRK also expressed his gratitude through a social media post with the caption, “Thank you for honouring me with the National Award. Thanks to the jury, the I&B ministry… Iss samman ke liye Bharat Sarkar ka dhanyawaad. Overwhelmed with the love showered upon me. Half a hug to everyone today.”

About National Award Winners

At the 71st National Film Awards, Shah Rukh Khan shared the Best Actor award with Vikrant Massey, who was honoured for his powerful role in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ’12th Fail’. Rani Mukerji got the Best Actress award for her heartfelt performance in ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’. Sudipto Sen was recognised as Best Director for the hard-hitting film ‘The Kerala Story’. Meanwhile, the award for Best Hindi Film went to the satire-drama ‘Kathal’, starring Sanya Malhotra in the lead.
