NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, continued his sharp criticism of the Election Commission (EC). On Friday, he released a new video, once again accusing the EC of serious irregularities in the conduct of elections across the country. In the video, Rahul Gandhi cited multiple state elections to support his claim of what he called “vote chori” (vote theft), questioning the credibility and neutrality of the Election Commission.“Vote chori is not just an electoral scam, it is a major betrayal of the Constitution and democracy,” Rahul Gandhi wrote on X, sharing a video alongside the post.“Let the nation’s wrongdoers hear this — times will change, punishment will surely be meted out,” he added. He said that during various state elections, the Congress and the INDIA bloc sensed one kind of “public mood” on the ground, but the results reflected something “completely different”, raising doubts about the fairness of the process.Reiterating his previous claim about Maharashtra, Rahul alleged that between the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, a large number of “new voters” magically appeared, and “they voted for the BJP.”He further claimed that when leaders of the INDIA bloc held a press conference over the Maharashtra assembly results, they had requested the EC to provide voter lists and video footage, but the poll body refused. This, he said, raised serious questions — “Is the EC helping the BJP?”Meanwhile, Congress MP from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi backed her brother and party colleague Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against the Election Commission, accusing the poll body of stonewalling serious concerns.“Rahul Gandhi ji has made a major revelation that warrants an investigation,” she said. “The Election Commission is refusing to share the voter list, isn’t investigating, and is instead asking for affidavits. We’ve been submitting data consistently—so why is the Commission unwilling to acknowledge its own figures?”Taking aim at both the BJP and the EC, she added, “The kind of statements coming from them make one thing absolutely clear: there’s been massive foul play.”Rahul’s latest video follows his detailed press briefing on Thursday, where he gave a presentation highlighting what he described as serious issues in the election process. He alleged that the Election Commission “colluded with the BJP to win the Maharashtra elections.”In that briefing, he also questioned the EC on multiple counts, including alleged duplicate votes, fake or invalid addresses, unusually large numbers of voters registered at the same address, and misuse of Form 6, which is used for new voter registration.
