After a string of underwhelming performances, Vijay Deverakonda is back in form — and in style. His latest release Kingdom has delivered a strong first week at the box office, collecting an estimated Rs 47.40 crore, making it the third biggest hit of the actor’s career. The action-packed drama, directed by Gowthan Tinnanuri opened to solid numbers in both urban and mass centres. Backed by a grounded yet gripping narrative and Vijay’s intense performance, Kingdom has struck a chord with audiences but as the week progressed the film began to lose momentum.
In terms of box office rankings within Deverakonda’s filmography, Kingdom now stands behind only two films:
Arjun Reddy – Rs 51.00 CrKhushi – Rs 48.26 Cr- Kingdom – Rs 47.90 Cr (8 Days)
Liger – Rs 41.17 CrDear Comrade – Rs 26.20 CrFamily Star – Rs 18.25 Cr- World Famous Lover – Rs 12.55 Cr
The film has already crossed the full-run total of Liger (Rs 41.17 crore), Dear Comrade (Rs 26.2 crore), and Family Star (Rs 18.25 crore) — all of which struggled to maintain momentum after their openings. Notably, it has also far outpaced World Famous Lover, which ended its run at Rs 12.55 crore. The strong showing of Kingdom comes as a much-needed win for Vijay Deverakonda, who had been under pressure following a string of lukewarm box office results. After the pan-India misfire of Liger, followed by Family Star’s poor theatrical run earlier this year, the actor has been on the lookout for a project that could reconnect him with his core audience. With Kingdom, he seems to have found that footing once again. There’s also cautious optimism about the film’s continued run. While the Rs 47.40 crore figure accounts for the first week, positive word-of-mouth could help Kingdom cross the Rs 50 crore mark and possibly surpass Arjun Reddy’s lifetime number. Much will depend on how well it holds up in its second weekend.
