Meena Kumari and Gulzar became friends while shooting for Benazir. During this time, he discovered her love for poetry and encouraged her to write more. Unfortunately, Meena’s health began to decline, and she was later diagnosed with liver cirrhosis.
Completing Mere Apne despite failing health
Despite her fragile health, Meena Kumari went on to star in Mere Apne, directed by Gulzar, and completed the film even as her condition worsened.
