Watch: CJI DY Chandrachud on what gives judges greatest satisfaction | India News
NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Monday shared what gives judges the greatest satisfaction while hearing the cases.
On a case with “happy ending”, CJI shared a story about a couple who had filed for divorce and custody of their children in Delhi’s Patiala House court. The husband had initiated the divorce proceedings, while the wife sought maintenance and custody of their children.
He said, “I remember one case in which a man had filed for a divorce in Patiala House court, while his wife had filed for maintenance and custody of children.”
However, during the pre-Lok adalat sitting, the couple made a surprising decision. He added, “During the pre-Lok adalat sitting they both decided that they want to stay together. When I asked them about it they shared that they are happy and want to live.”

He further added, “You know ultimately as judges the greatest satisfaction for us is when we help parties resolve their disputes.”
“Of course, as judges we have to decide disputes, deliver judgements decide them in accordance with the law but the most important thing is the satisfaction which you get when parties resolve their issues impeccably,” the CJI said, underlining the significance of facilitating peaceful resolutions in legal matters.
