How Big B’s accident led to a hepatitis infection
The ‘Sholay’ actor’s health took a serious turn during the 1983 film ‘Coolie.’ While performing a stunt, he suffered a severe accident that needed urgent hospital care and a blood transfusion.Speaking on ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) in the past, he said, “In 1982, during the accident, I needed a lot of blood; nearly 200 people donated, and there were 60 bottles. And amongst them was one person who was carrying the Hepatitis B virus, which wasn’t detected.”The ‘Silsila’ actor explained how the virus entered his body and remained hidden for years. “This happened in 1982. And in 2005, during a general investigation, it was detected. 75 percent of my liver has been destroyed. Toh abhi main jeewith hoon 25 per cent live pe (Now, I’m alive on 25 per cent liver).” Amitabh also stressed that timely investigations are very important, as ignoring such diseases can be dangerous.
