Zubeen Garg, the beloved singer known for songs like ‘Ya Ali’ and many popular tracks, passed away in Singapore on Friday. His sudden demise has left fans across Assam and India heartbroken. The Assam government has declared three days of state mourning and announced a thorough inquiry into the circumstances of his passing.

As reported by PTI, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota said on X, “The Government of Assam expresses deep shock and sorrow at the passing of Shri Zubeen Garg, eminent singer, filmmaker and cultural icon.”He added, “State mourning has been declared from 20th to 22nd September. During this period, there will be no official entertainment, dinners, or ceremonial functions.”

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made it clear that the state government would investigate Zubeen Garg’s demise thoroughly. He emphasised that all aspects of the incident will be examined carefully to ensure transparency.

FIR lodged against organiser and manager

An FIR has been registered at Morigaon police station against North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and the singer’s manager Siddhartha Sharma.“Assam Police will probe the demise of Zubeen Garg and both Mahanta and Sharma, along with those who were present with the singer in his last moments, will be interrogated,” Sarma told reporters.He also added, “There are reports that the singer was taken to a party the night before his demise and we are also trying to ascertain its veracity.”

Reports indicate swimming accident in Singapore

According to PTI, Garg reportedly passed away while “swimming in the sea without a life jacket” in Singapore.Sarma explained the need for international cooperation, saying, “As the place of occurrence is not India, we will get the criminal part, if any, from that country and if he was taken from Assam with a wrong intent, we will get this aspect from the state.”

Assam government assures transparency and clarity

The Chief Minister reassured the public, “The state government will impartially ascertain all aspects related to his demise and all arrangements will be made if anyone wants to give any information or be a witness.”He also added, “The matter should become absolutely clear to the people of the state so that nothing is hidden regarding the popular singer’s demise.”
