It is very rare that films continue their theatrical run after getting an OTT release, this is exactly what’s happening with Ashwin Kumar’s ambitious animation mythological film Mahavatar Narsimha. The film is already at the no.1 spot of the streaming platform and its run at the ticket window is also nothing short of being magical. The animation film dropped on the streaming service on 19th September. In a week since its debut on OTT, the film has raised Rs 49 lakh to its collection taking the overall total of the film to Rs 250.80 crore. The film has already become the highest grossing animation film and is on the 50th rank of highest grossing films of Hindi cinema.Breaking down the Rs 49 lakh collection in its 9th week, Rs 16 lakh came from the Kannada version, Rs 11 lakh came from Telugu version and Rs 22 lakh came from the Hindi version. The total Hindi collection of the film is now Rs 187.9. At this point the film could still sustain for another week at the theaters adding Rs 20-Rs 25 lakh more in the 10th week. At one point the way the film was performing, it was expected to break Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’s box office collection of Rs 188.57 crore and take the 49th spot in the list of highest grossing Hindi films. But the way collections were dropping and now with the film running in very few theaters- it wouldn’t be possible. Since the film is currently running in Hindi, Kannada and Tamil, it won’t be impacted by the new releases like Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG or Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa’s Homebound. Pawan Kalyan’s film is limited to Telugu speaking states and Homebound is a very niche film with limited screening.
