Indira Gandhi set Ameesha Patel’s parents’ wedding date
Before entering Bollywood, Ameesha was born into a prominent family. She is the granddaughter of lawyer and politician Barrister Rajni Patel. Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, she shared her family’s unique connection with late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Patel revealed, “Mrs. Indira Gandhi was the one who fixed the date of my parents’ wedding. There was no kundali looked to set date for their wedding. My grandfather, Barrister Rajni Patel, asked Indira Gandhi, ‘Indira, when are you free? She said, Rajni, I am free on the 4th of July.’ The date was booked on the 4th of July. It was booked in Taj Mahal Palace, South Bombay, Colaba. And that’s how my parents got married.”
Ameesha Patel’s childhood was surrounded by famous personalities
Ameesha Patel also reflected on the extraordinary people she met as a child. “When I was born in Breach Candy Hospital on 9th June 1975, the first visitor was Mrs. Gandhi to see me. So I saw these people while growing up. Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar, M. F. Hussain, who was an artist, he used to come home, paint on the wall and leave. So I saw this life.”
Why Ameesha Patel chose career before love
In the same interview, Patel opened up about how she balanced love and career. She admitted that her career was always her top priority but said she had to make sacrifices in love as well.Patel recalled a serious relationship before entering films, saying it was with “a partner from a prominent South Bombay industrial family, similar to her own.” She added, “Everything ticked all the boxes,” but her partner could not accept the public nature of her acting career. Ultimately, Ameesha chose her career over the relationship. She said, “I have lost a lot for career and lost a lot for love”, but added that both experiences taught her valuable life lessons.
