NEW DELHI: Jyoti Singh, wife of Bhojpuri actor and BJP leader Pawan Singh, met Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Friday amid speculation that she might be seeking a party ticket for the Bihar Assembly elections. Addressing the rumours, Jyoti Singh clarified that her visit was not politically motivated. Speaking to the reporters after the meeting she said, “I have not come here to seek a ticket or contest elections. My only aim is to ensure that no other woman suffers the injustice I have faced. I want to be the voice of all oppressed women. No topic related to elections or tickets was raised in our conversation.”
Prashant Kishor also confirmed her intentions, saying, “Jyoti ji came to meet us today. Let me make it very clear that contesting elections or getting a party ticket is not her intention. She came to explain the difficulties she is currently going through.” According to Kishor, Singh spoke about her safety concerns and the lack of justice in her personal life. “As far as her personal issues are concerned, Jan Suraaj has nothing to do with them. But regarding her safety, the party stands firmly with her. She wants to ensure that no other woman has to go through what she has experienced,” he said. Also read: Bihar polls: 17 EBC, 11 OBC, 9 general, 7 Muslims in Jan Suraaj’s 1st list; ex-CM’s granddaughter also gets ticket In recent months, Singh reportedly sought help from several leaders after marital tensions with Pawan Singh escalated when she visited him at his Lucknow flat. After an hour and a half meeting, Pawan Singh left while Jyoti Singh stayed behind. Police were called to the residence, and Singh posted a tearful video alleging harassment and threats of eviction. Pawan Singh denied the allegations, writing on social media, “Would I hurt the feelings of the public, who have helped me reach this position? The truth is police were already present at my house to ensure nothing untoward happened. No one was called against her.” Speculation continues that Pawan Singh may contest the assembly elections on a BJP ticket, as he recently met the party’s top leaders in Delhi.
