Patna: No candidate turned up to file nomination papers on the first day in Patna on Friday for the Nov 6 assembly elections in the district, DM Thiyagarajan S M said. He outlined the procedures and rules for candidates’ nomination as directed by the Election Commission of India.“The nomination process is open from 11am to 3pm daily at the office of the returning officer (RO). Only three vehicles are allowed for the candidate within a 100-metre radius, and the candidate should enter the office with no more than four other people for submission. A candidate may file papers for a maximum of two assembly seats,” he said. The DM added that candidates can use the Suvidha portal to fill out nomination papers and deposit the fee online. “However, it is mandatory to submit a hard copy of the nomination paper to the RO within the prescribed period. To ensure transparency, the details of every candidate will be made public after submission,” he said. The DM added that political parties and candidates must obtain prior permission from the concerned RO before organising any meeting, procession, or rally. “A single-window system has been established at the RO and ARO level. Permissions will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis within 48 hours of receiving the application,” the DM said.Thiyagarajan also confirmed that no appeals have been received at the district level regarding the addition or deletion of names from the electoral roll.Home voting facilities will be provided for senior citizens and people with disabilities, with all polling booths ensured to be on the ground floor. “Every booth will be monitored, and mobile deposition facilities will be available. Women’s polling centres will be located in urban areas, staffed by personnel from surrounding localities,” he said. The DM expressed concern over low voter turnout in Kumhrar, Bankipur, and Digha but said the administration is taking steps to raise awareness. “We will be organising cycle rallies for first-time voters on Ganga Path,” he said, appealing to residents to participate in the polls.
