Anees Bazmee recently addressed the debate over rising entourage costs of the actors. Speaking on the topic, the filmmaker stated that he faced issues like mounting budgets and interference from the actor’s crew in recent years. He was asked to comment on other producers stating that actors gave the go-ahead for the movie only after knowing the feedback and approval for the entourage.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Anees Bazmee shared that there are some people who are like that. He said, “I think it is insecurity, which is why they turn to their makeup man or manager. I don’t know how qualified they are to give input on films, but I feel stories are meant to be felt.”The filmmaker further shared that if his “gut” tells him not to sign a movie, he won’t do it even if others ask him to go ahead with it. He said, “Everyone has a different way of working, but yes, this happens when the entire entourage comes and sits for the narration.”
Anees Bazmee on rising costs of production due to entourages
Speaking about the rising production cost, Bazmee shared an anecdote of when he was shooting a scene for ‘No Entry’ with 15 actors. The director stated that when he stepped out of the set during a break, he witnessed a fleet of vanity vans outside.He recalled asking assistants how many shootings were happening on that day. Anees Bazmee said, “He told me, ‘Sir, it’s just us!’ I was shocked! I was told that everyone has separate vans. So I quickly rushed inside and said, ‘Ok, let’s start.'”In the same interview, the filmmaker shared that when the art directors on the set informed him that the props were not ready, he started shooting the close-up scenes of actors to avoid wasting time. The director expressed that he was aware that the cost was riding on him, and hence, he would be “economical.”He said, “If I can make a film in 70 days, I will never extend it to 75 days. I will plan in a manner that I deliver, without compromising on the vision and getting into unnecessary reshoots. That doesn’t happen with me.”
Anees Bazmee’s solution
While speaking about actors who throw tantrums on the set, Bazmee said, “Everyone has tantrums, but the key is to satisfy them.”He expressed that actors are “innocent” and have “child-like stubbornness.” Hence, according to the filmmaker, making them understand in a good way is the solution. He shared that he has worked with such actors. On the other hand, Bazmee also added, “But of course, some are notorious, like every class has some naughty children! I talk to them lovingly, and I do genuinely love them.”On the work front, Anees Bazmee is helming ‘No Entry 2’.
