A video of a mid-air confrontation on an Air India flight has gone viral after a passenger was allegedly threatened for not speaking Marathi. The incident occurred on October 23 aboard flight AI676 from Kolkata to Mumbai.Content creator Mahi Khan, also known as Mahinergy, who posted the video, claimed that a woman co-passenger demanded he speak Marathi because he was travelling to Mumbai. In the now-viral clip, the unidentified woman is heard saying, “Yes, please do that. You are going to Mumbai, you should know Marathi.”The situation escalated when Khan calmly refused and called the cabin crew for assistance. He alleges the woman then threatened him, saying in Hindi, “Get down at Mumbai, I’ll show you what badtameezi (misbehaviour) is.”In his social media post, Khan wrote: “This isn’t just about me, it’s about the mindset that’s growing dangerously normal. You cannot force a language. You cannot bully respect.”Several social media users condemned the incident as being against Maharashtrian culture. One comment noted, “We are Maharashtrian and this is not our culture. It’s totally wrong to force someone to speak Marathi.”This incident echoes similar language-based conflicts in Maharashtra recently, including a July altercation in a Mumbai local train where a passenger was told to learn Marathi or “get out.”
