Anurag Kashyap reveals why he refuses to buy luxury cars like Bollywood stars, prefers a simple life away from the industry |

Acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has revealed why he refuses to buy luxury cars like Audi or Mercedes, choosing instead to live simply and focus on his work.

‘I’m happier away from the industry’

Speaking on Game Changers, Kashyap explained that his happiness doesn’t depend on material possessions. “I don’t want to own a building or a mansion,” he said. “I still live in Versova and I am very happy there. Now I’ve shifted to Bengaluru and I’m even happier — I’m a bit away from the industry now, but I haven’t stopped working.”His move to a quieter life, away from Mumbai’s constant buzz, reflects his desire for peace and focus rather than showmanship.

Anurag Kashyap reveals he owns just one vehicle

The filmmaker revealed that he owns just one vehicle, a Mahindra XEV 9e, which he shares with his daughter. It was bought in March 2025. “My friends have Audis and Mercedes. But when it rains and floods in Mumbai, their cars stop working — and it costs a fortune to repair them. At half that cost, you can buy a Mahindra. I’ve never owned anything else,” Kashyap said.

Minimalism fuels creativity

Kashyap believes that minimalism not only brings peace but also fuels artistic creativity. “Reducing unnecessary expenditure keeps creativity alive and prevents financial losses,” he explained.

On the work front

Anurag Kashyap was recently seen in Nishaanchi and Bandar, the latter featuring Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra, and Saba Azad.

Anurag Kashyap says people used to ‘question his ‘morality and character’ after watching his films: ‘I used to identify with adult movies’
