Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 has completed a spectacular 50 days in cinema halls, reaffirming the franchise’s place as one of the most powerful forces in contemporary Indian cinema. The film has enjoyed a steady run at the box office despite it releasing on OTT on the 29th day of the release. The film, a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, has shattered expectations and emerged as a massive commercial triumph, collecting a staggering Rs 621.35 crore across all languages.The film had the potential of crossing Jawan headlined by Shah Rukh Khan as the 6th biggest film of Indian Cinema which had collected Rs 640.25 crore had the OTT release been dealyed. With its strong cultural roots, spellbinding storytelling, and Rishab Shetty’s commanding performance, the film has become one of the biggest successes of the year.The film has already become the biggest hit of the year and the seventh biggest hit of Indian Cinema. The film’s Kannada version, its original language, has led from the front, contributing an impressive Rs 199.46 crore. The goodwill of part 1 and similar universe of the second part helped the film to surpass many mainstream Bollywood releases of the year, signalling the franchise’s pan-Indian power.The film went on to become the 37th biggest hit of Hindi cinema with its performance at the box office. In the South, the film performed robustly across all dubbed editions. The Telugu version earned Rs 89.94 crore, riding on positive word of mouth and a strong fan base that grew after the first film became a cult hit in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Tamil version brought in Rs 63.31 crore, meanwhile, the Malayalam version delivered Rs 45.31 crore, an excellent figure considering Kerala’s competitive and content-driven market.With Rs 621.35 crore overall, Kantara 2 stands tall as one of India’s highest-grossing films of the year, and perhaps the second most successful Kannada film of all time after Prashanth Neel and yash’s KGF 2. Kantara 2 features Gulshan Devaiah, Jayaram and Rukimini Vasanth in pivotal roles, the makers have also announced the third part with the climax of the second part.
