‘Dining With The Kapoors’, is the hot new show and everyone seems to want a seat at the table to catch in on all the family drama, gossip, humour and more. As Randhir Kapoor, Rima Jain, Neetu Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor gathered for a meal, the evening took an emotional turn when RK revealed a lesser-known fact about his name.

Raj Kapoor‘s real name

The actor shared that his name had a special significance as it was once his legendary grandfather, Raj Kapoor’s name.He revealed that his grandfather’s full name was Ranbir Raj Kapoor. Decades later, when Rishi and Neetu welcomed their son, the family chose to honour the legend by passing down his name, to their son and continuing the Kapoor legacy in both sentiment and symbolism.“My name is actually my grandfather’s name. His real name was Ranbir Raj Kapoor — that’s how he used to sign his cheques,” Ranbir recalled during the family dinner.

How Ranbir got his name

He went on to quip, “When I was born, I think my family was running out of names starting with R. So my grand-uncle, Mr Shammi Kapoor, told my grandfather that since he had not used this name for any of his children, he should give it to me. That’s how I got the name Ranbir.”‘Dining With The Kapoors’ is created by Armaan Jain and directed by Smriti Mundhra of ‘Indian Matchmaking’ fame.

Ranbir awaiting Ramayana release

On the work front, Ranbir will be seen next in the epic ‘Ramayana’. The actor will be seen taking on the role of Lord Ram, opposite Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita and Yash as Ravana. The mythological epic is slated to release in two parts with the first part set to release on Diwali 2026 and the second part set to release on Diwali 2027.
