Farah Khan and Manish Malhotra have known each other since the early 1990s, a time when both were rising fast in the Hindi film world. Farah was becoming a well-known choreographer, while Manish was turning into the most trusted costume designer in the industry. Their work brought them together on many film sets, and with that came several creative fights that are now remembered with laughter. In a new video shared on Farah’s channel, the two sat together and recalled their fiery arguments, the moments they stormed off, and the times they refused to take each other’s calls. One particular fight during a Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla film stood out the most.
Two strong creatives often clashed
Malhotra started off by explaining how different Khan was in her early choreographer days, “Farah, the choreographer and Farah, the director, are two different people. Farah, the choreographer, used to really comment and shout ‘Arre yeh costume…’” Farah laughed and agreed, saying, “We have had many fights on set.”Both were passionate and expressive. Farah Khan wanted her dancers and actors to move freely without costume issues, and Manish Malhotra wanted his styling choices to be respected. Their strong personalities often led to loud disagreements.
Major fight on Juhi Chawla’s song
Malhotra then shared a big argument that happened during the shooting of Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla’s film ‘Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’. The fight took place during one of Juhi’s songs.Malhotra recalled, “One day, I got upset and I walked out of the set because there was one Juhi Chawla song in ‘Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’ and Farah said, ‘This grey kurta is not moving’, and I said, ‘You are always commenting’.”Malhotra was referring to the song ‘Banke Tera Jogi’. Farah’s blunt comment about the costume pushed him to walk out, leaving the set shocked. It was rare for Manish Malhotra to reach such a breaking point, but this time he had had enough.
Manish Malhotra refused calls for two days
Khan added her side of the story, looking straight into the camera as she said, “I remember you got really angry with me.” She then revealed, “He has not picked up my phone for two days.”
Another dramatic moment on ‘Fevicol Se’
This was not the only time the two locked horns. Malhotra recalled yet another tense moment during the shoot of ‘Fevicol Se’ from ‘Dabangg 2’, the hit Kareena Kapoor song. Khan remembered it clearly and said, “I remember you got really angry with me.” Once again, Manish refused to take her calls for two days.
Farah Khan becomes softer as a director
Malhotra then spoke about the big shift he sees in Khan when she is directing a film instead of choreographing. “As a director, she is a different person. She becomes so nice,” he said.Khan agreed with a smile, explaining, “I know because I am happiest when I am directing and I feel like this is my team and my people.”
Farah Khan and Manish Malhotra’s work together
Farah Khan and Manish Malhotra have not only worked together on choreography-driven movies but also on the films she has directed. Their collaborations include ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Om Shanti Om’ and other projects where both brought their strengths to the table.
