Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on November 24. Known for his warm personality and unforgettable presence on screen, he was cherished by both fans and colleagues. On Thursday, November 27, his family and friends gathered at a touching prayer meet and it was called ‘Celebration of Life’ to honour him. The evening brought together emotions, music, and heartfelt memories as the film industry united to say goodbye.

Family gathers to honour Dharmendra’s memory

The Deol family hosted the prayer meet at the lawns of Taj Lands End in Bandra. Dharmendra’s first wife Prakash Kaur attended along with their children, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Ajeet,a and Vijeta. His grandsons Karan and Rajveer, were present too, as well as actor Abhay Deol.

Although the gathering was private, photos and videos later surfaced online, showing the emotional moments shared by the family. Both Sunny and Bobby appeared visibly moved as they greeted guests. The ceremony began at 5:30 pm and concluded around 8 pm.The prayer meet took place in a peaceful white-themed setting. White floral arrangements decorated the lawn, while candid photographs of Dharmendra were displayed across the space, capturing his life and legacy. A large portrait of the actor was placed on stage, framed with flowers. In front of it, singers performed live.

Sonu Nigam offers moving musical tribute

A highlight of the evening was the heartfelt tribute by Sonu Nigam. The singer performed some of Dharmendra’s most loved film songs, filling everyone’s hearts with nostalgia. As per Hindustan Times, his emotional renditions included ‘Main Kahin Kavi Na Ban Jau’, ‘Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas’, ‘Apne Toh Apne Hote Hai’, ‘Ro Lene De’, and ‘Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge’.

Spiritual songs were performed

The ceremony also included a spiritual music segment. A circulating video from the event shows singer Prithvi Gandharv performing the bhajan ‘Govind Bolo Hari Gopal Bolo’. His peaceful singing added a devotional touch to the evening. As he performed in front of Dharmendra’s portrait, guests listened quietly, letting the music create a moment of reflection and prayer.

Bollywood arrives to pay final respects

The prayer meet witnessed celebrities from different eras coming together to remember Dharmendra and support the Deol family. Rekha, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Shabana Azmi, Jackie Shroff, Sidharth Malhotra, Suniel Shetty, Ameesha Patel, Fardeen Khan, Nimrat Kaur, Sonu Sood, Anu Malik, Subhash Ghai, Abbas-Mastan and Anil Sharma were among those who attended.
