Rupinder Kaur was married to Gurwinder Singh of Sukhanwala village in Faridkot.Gurwinder’s sister, Manveer Kaur, who is a permanent resident of Canada but is presently at her in-laws’ home at Jodki Kankar village in Fazilka, stated in her complaint to the police that her brother, working in a private bank, solemnised marriage with Rupinder Kaur in Nov 2023. Rupinder had migrated to Canada in 2019 and came for the marriage, returning to Canada after some days. She eventually returned to India in Jan 2025 and started living with Gurwinder at Sukhanwala village. Gurwinder used to say that Rupinder had told him she was well settled in Canada, and had solemnised marriage against her wish. On Nov 28, Gurwinder called her to say he had concrete evidence that Rupinder had illicit relations with one Harkanwalpreet Singh from Bathinda village, who had returned from Canada, and she wanted to usurp land by killing him in conspiracy with her paramour. At about 11:30 pm on Friday (November 28), she got a call that Gurwinder had been killed and that his body was found on the roof of their home at Sukhanwala village. In her complaint, she further stated that her cousin Jatinder Singh, living nearby, told her that he was on a walk after dinner near 11 pm when some unknown person came to Gurwinder’s home. Rupinder opened the door, and after some time, it was known that Gurwinder had been killed, and upon search, it was found that gold was missing from the almirah.
