In an interview with Digital Commentary, Seema Pahwa noted that gender responsibilities have their roots in ancient times. She added that the decision about men going out to work while women would stay at home must have been taken because of the nature of women. She elaborated on her point and said, “A woman is very soft by nature, and she is a mother since birth. For her to take responsibility of the home comes automatically.The actress expressed that after her marriage with Manoj Pahwa, she herself started managing the house, preparing for the family, and taking care of her in-laws. The veteran actress shared that she “didn’t revolt” against it.Seema Pahwa also clarified that she was not doing it out of “obligation” but because she would get “satisfaction” from the same. She said, “I cook for Manoj when he goes for a shoot, and I tell him that I’m not doing this for you; I’m doing this for myself because I feel good about it.”

Seema Pahwa on younger generations going against gender roles

In the same interview, Seema Pahwa shared that the current generation often goes against the rigid gender roles. The actress also stated that she understands the same. She quipped, “I talk like an old woman to the youngsters when they revolt about gender roles,” adding, “What is the problem in doing housework? I am also a career-oriented woman, and I am balancing both work and home. If we despise housework, then we as women are going against our nature.”

Manoj Pahwa stated that it “is genetic behavior” that has been formed after thousands of years. Echoing similar sentiments as his wife, he said that the division of roles dates back to ancient survival patterns. He said, “When a man used to go hunting, women used to take care of the kids at home. It was the man who would go hunt and arrange food.”Talking about the current day and age, the veteran actor shared that today’s women aspire to become independent. He said, “In modern society, girls get trapped because this nature is genetically ingrained in them, but they also want to become independent.” The actor added, “Double chakkar mein khud hi phas gaye. Now they have to do both—house and outside work.”At the end of the topic, Manoj Pahwa stated that it takes thousands of years to change genetic behavior. He said, “And now we are seeing a few examples of men staying at home when the women have a good career.”
