R Madhavan on limited screen time in Dhurandhar, promises a bigger role in sequel, ‘There is a lot of my character as he trains Ranveer Singh’ | Hindi Movie News

Date:

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has been in theatres for less than a week, yet fans are already buzzing about the sequel. The spy action thriller—featuring Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Sanjay Dutt—has taken a strong lead at the box office. While the first film gives audiences a glimpse into the life of an Indian spy infiltrating terrorist networks in Pakistan, the real intrigue lies in how Jaskirat (Ranveer Singh) eventually transforms into Hamza. The makers ended the film with an official announcement: Dhurandhar 2 will hit theatres on March 19, 2026. Ahead of that, R Madhavan has opened up about the sequel and what fans can expect from his role as Ajay Sanyal, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau.

‘Aditya Dhar is a monk’

In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Madhavan couldn’t stop praising his director Aditya Dhar. Reflecting on the intense shoot and demanding material, he said, “Aditya Dhar is a monk. Through all the chaos of making a film so dense and intense, he would sit there for the anxieties to settle down. What a fine human being! After working with Aditya in Dhurandhar, I want to work with him again and again.”

‘My screen presence is limited in the first part’

While fans wished to see more of Madhavan in the first film, the actor revealed that the sequel will offer exactly that. He shared, “My screen presence is limited in the first part. But in the second part, which will release in March, there is a lot of my character as he trains Ranveer’s character in skills of espionage warfare.”This confirms that Dhurandhar 2 will delve deeper into the mentor–trainee dynamic between Ajay Sanyal and Jaskirat, likely exploring the transformation that the first film only hinted at.

‘I couldn’t have asked for more’

The actor also reflected on his remarkable year in cinema. Madhavan said, “I started the year with Hisaab Barabar. I am ending the year with Dhurandhar, which is one of the most important films of my career. I’ve had the privilege of working with the best directors in the most creative and productive phase of their career: Mani Ratnam, Kamal Haasan, Rajkumar Hirani, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Aanand L Rai, and now Aditya Dhar. I couldn’t have asked for more.” With Dhurandhar 2 already in motion and Madhavan promising a much meatier presence, fans now have even more reason to count down to March 2026.
