Actor Asif Ali has reacted to the recent court verdict in the 2017 actress assault case, stating that while he accepts the judgment, the survivor’s right to justice remains paramount. As reported by Manorama Online, speaking after casting his vote in Thodupuzha, the actor maintained that commenting further could amount to contempt of court.
Asif Ali reacts to the verdict
“I have no relevant opinion about the court verdict in the case. I accept the verdict. If I say anything about it, I feel it might amount to contempt of court. Those whom the court felt deserved punishment have been punished. I stand with the survivor at all times,” Asif Ali told media.Asif reiterated that this is an issue that demands caution from everyone involved. He noted that the case holds multiple layers and can be interpreted in many ways, adding that accuracy and sensitivity are crucial when addressing it.
On Dileep ’s re-entry
When asked about actor Dileep’s possible return to industry bodies following his acquittal, Asif Ali distanced himself from the discussion. “I am not the person to comment on the verdict… Whatever is said must be said with accuracy. If Dileep was removed from the organisation at the time when he was accused, then when such a verdict comes out, any organisation must take appropriate action according to that,” he said.Asif Ali emphasised again, “My stand remains that the survivor must get justice… The survivor is my colleague and a very close friend. If such a thing has happened to her, no compensation is ever enough.” Asif added that further commentary on the verdict could lead to contempt of court, as the legal process is still ongoing.
