Interestingly, the qawaaali, whose only teaser was given in the trailer, is a full-fledged song in the movie, and its roots can be traced back to the 1960s. That’s not it, it has a connection to Hrithik Roshan’s family! Read on to know more.
‘Ishq Jalakar (Karavaan)’ and the OG qawaali ‘Na To Karavan Ki Talaash Hai , Yeh Ishq Ishq Hai’
The song titled ‘Ishq Jalakar (Karavaan),’ sung by Shashwat Sachdev, Shahzad Ali, Subhadeep Das Chowdhury, and Armaan Khan, is a modern version of the qawaali ‘Na To Karavan Ki Talaash Hai, Yeh Ishq Ishq Hai,’ which was composed by Hrithik Roshan’s grandfather, Roshan Lal, in the 1960s. The lyrics to the qawaali were given by the celebrated poet Sahir Ludhianvi.
The new song adds modern beats and takes the legacy of the timeless composition forward.
History of ‘Na To Karavan Ki Talaash Hai’
According to an India Today report, before entering the world of cinema, the qawaali was titled ‘Na Toh Butkade Ki Talab Mujhe.’ It existed only in the traditional circles and was performed by Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan and Ustad Fateh Ali Khan (father of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan). This very first version had more Sufi emotion and was backed by vocal artistry. The report further stated that for bringing the qawaali in Indian cinema, producer R. Chandra originally approached composer Khayyam. However, he didn’t agree to adapt this classical piece. This is when Roshan Lal stepped in and created a gem whose shine hasn’t been lost to date. Roshan Lal’s qawaali was powered by the vocals of legendary singers, Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Asha Bhosle, and S.D. Batish and Sudha Malhotra. This qawaali is also one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most loved musical pieces. “My favourite song is actually a qawaali by him. I think I nearly know the whole qawaali if it is playing,” he said on the show ‘The Roshans’.
