‘Mask,’ featuring Kavin and Andrea Jeremiah, has been officially announced for a digital release as ZEE5 sets the date to January 9, 2026. The film has been brought back following its theatrical run; it will now cater to a much wider audience as it is ready for streaming. With the importance that crime thrillers receive at OTT platforms, ‘Mask’ will have a second wind with all of the audiences that enjoy dark films and antiheroes.
Kavin’s morally complex detective story heads to streaming
‘Mask,’ a movie written and directed by Vikarnan Ashok, revolves around Velu (Kavin), who leads a double life as a private detective and makes choices in a very grey way. Velu’s life is complicated when a gang indulges in entrenched chaos and makes bad moves appear good. However, as he investigates, Velu faces secrets from the past that threaten his life because of what he’s been involved in. Velu must navigate the present circumstances and confront the crime he is investigating, but he must also deal with his own inner demons.
Kavin hopes ‘Mask’ will reach a wider audience through OTT
Speaking of the film’s journey to OTT, Kavin shared that he is happy to see ‘Mask’ getting a new chance on OTT. We had already released the movie in theaters, and OTT is giving the movie a much bigger reach. I’m glad, as Velu is a very complicated character, and now they will get to see this thriller with his rise and falls and his spectrum of emotions that he goes through. OTT is the best place to connect with the film and its content.
Will ‘Mask’ get a second life on digital?
The technical crew behind ‘Mask’ was GV Prakash Kumar (music), RD Rajasekhar (cinematography), and Ramar (editing). This cast gave the film a serious tone. According to box office projections, the movie had a slow run at the Indian box office at Rs 8 crore. Despite mixed reviews about the film and the film’s element of confusion, ‘The Mask’ will get a chance to redeem itself with its OTT release date on 9 January 2026. The audience has been receptive to dark OTT movies, consequently creating a niche for ‘Mask’ to fit with its OTT run.
