Zubeen Garg was one of the most notable personalities of the Indian music industry. The news of his untimely demise shattered millions of hearts. While the investigation into his death in underprocess, the celebrated singer’s family on Friday announced setting up a trust in his name. While addressing the media, Zubin Garg’s family shared that the trust will work in accodance to the late singer’s vision and continue his legacy.
Zubeen Garg’s family to set up a trust in his name
According to PTI, Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Garg, and sister Palmee Borthakur, shared the news with the media at a press conference in Guwahati. While speaking about the new initiative, Garima shared, “We have decided to set up a trust in the name of Zubeen Garg after consultation with our family members, relatives, well-wishers, and people from different walks of life who were associated with him.” She further mentioned that members of the ‘Zubeen Fan Club’ will be working closely with the trust, ensuring the late singer’s legacy and vision are taken forward.“The trust will work on issues close to Zubeen’s heart, including nature conservation and promoting young talent. It will also take steps for scientific preservation of intellectual property rights of his creations, and have a dedicated research wing that will deal with his life and works,” she added.The trust will operate from the Kharghuli area, Guwahati. The family is donating its property in the said area for the establishment.
Zubeen Garg’s trust to work closely with ‘Kalaguru Artists Foundation’
Zubeen earlier founded the ‘Kalaguru Artists Foundation’, which will be working closely with the upcoming trust in the social and cultural fields. The family confirmed that ‘Abhinaya: Jonkie Borthakur Performing Arts Academy’, named after the singer’s deceased sister, will also be working in coordination with the new trust.“Zubeen dedicated his life to the people of Assam. It is now our responsibility to uphold his values and take his work forward by following the path he showed,” Garima said, according to IANS.
Zubeen Garg’s demise
Musical artist Zubeen Garg breathed his last on September 19, 2025, while swimming in the sea in Singapore. He was in Singapore to attend the Northeast Festival. Probe into his death case, hinted at foul play, and thus, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) took over the matter. So far, the festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer’s secretary Siddhartha Sharma, and his two band members Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, have been charged with murder. Meanwhile, his cousin Sandipan Garg has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.Further, on the charges of conspiracy, his two personal security officers (PSOs), Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya, have been booked.
