Salman Khan is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Battle of Galwan’, which is based on the clash between the Indian soldiers and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in 2020. Ahead of its release, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that movie-related issues are handled by a different department altogether and MEA has no role in such ventures. Here’s what happened.

According to PTI, on Friday, Ministry of External Affairs’ spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to a question regarding Salman Khan’s film ‘Battle of Galwan’, posed by a reporter. During the media briefing, he was asked to comment on reports suggesting that MEA has raised objections to the movie.To which Randhir Jaiswal said, “We understand that a film of this nature is being planned. Issues regarding filmmaking in India, as you are well aware, are looked after by relevant authorities. And as far as we are concerned, MEA has no role in this or such ventures.”

In the war drama, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Salman Khan is set to play the role of Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, who was martyred along with 16 other soldiers during the clash while defending the Indian territory. He was from the 16 Bihar Regiment. He was posthumously honored with the second-highest gallantry award, the Maha Vir Chakra.A teaser was dropped on Salman Khan’s 60th birthday (December 27, 2025), and it received a mixed response from the audience. For those unaware, the clash happened in June 2020, and it resulted in a severe strain in ties between India and China. Twenty Indian Army personnel laid down their lives in the Galwan Valley clashes on June 15, 2020.In February 2021, China officially acknowledged that five Chinese military officers and soldiers were killed in the clashes, though it is widely believed that the death toll on the Chinese side was much higher. Backed by Salman Khan, ‘Battle of Galwan’ stars Chitrangda Singh in the lead role. The movie is set to release in theaters on April 17, 2026.
