First, Jaxon Smith-Njigba has never played for the Dallas Cowboys. Second, his team, the Seattle Seahawks, is one of the finalists to compete for the Super Bowl. Third, Jerry Jones’ Cowboys last won a Super Bowl in 1996, so it has been 30 years. Now, what is the connection between America’s Team and the Seahawks’ third-year wide receiver?NFL Memes shared an 11-second video of Smith-Njigba seated on the bench. At the end, the camera focuses on the wideout’s tattoo, which features the Dallas Cowboys’ logo, a simple navy blue five-pointed star. They captioned their X post: “Congratulations to the Dallas Cowboys on finally making it to the Super Bowl this century.” How did cybercitizens react to this never-thought-before connection?

Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s tattoo and DeMarcus Lawrence’s first season with Seahawks

“Cowboys fans reading this while still wearing their 1995 championship rings,” wrote one X user. Another said, “We got JSN’s tattoo AND D-Law in the Super Bowl! Go Seallas Cowhawks.” D-Law is DeMarcus Lawrence, a linebacker for Seattle who previously played for the Cowboys.A third user talked about Lawrence specifically: “Think about it this way: In Demarcus Lawrence’s 1st season with the Seahawks, he’s made more conference championships and a Super Bowl in 1 season than the Cowboys have in 30 Years. It’s a foolproof theory that once you leave the Cowboys, you are guaranteed a SB appearance soon.” A fourth user expressed, “D Law deserves a super bowl. He put up with a lot of disappointing seasons with the Cowboys.” A fifth user shared, “I noticed that too. I had to look him up and yeah, he’s from Texas.” A Cowboys fan commented, “Hey…we are going!! On his arm…but that is the closest we have gotten! Sigh.”

Maliik Obee, a Seahawks.com Contributor, reported in Nov. 2023 that among Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s tattoos, one on his right arm honors his native Dallas as a tribute to his roots. When he returned to Dallas for the first time as an NFL player in 2023, Smith-Njigba shared, “I’m super excited to go home. I love playing in Dallas; it’s my favorite place to play. It’s going to be very special to me; I’ve been playing in that stadium since I was a kid.For me to have a Seahawks uniform on playing against the [Dallas] Cowboys – it’s an actual dream that I get to live out. So, I’m just super excited to do that. See all my family, all my friends, and hopefully a lot of people from my community come out. It’s going to be a special time. Not only for me, but everybody that’s with me.”
