Daltonganj: In a pre-Holi crackdown, a joint team of excise department and police personnel seized more than 4,000 litres of illegal foreign liquor and arrested one person late on Thursday night.Excise superintendent Sujit Kumar said, “The illicit foreign liquor, worth Rs 42 lakh, was stocked in the house of Santan Bhuiyan and Ramashish Bhuiyan at Basdah village under Paton police station limits.”The consignment seized included popular whisky brand. Ramashish was arrested on Thursday under sections of the Excise Act, Kumar said, adding that four others are at large. Santan and Ramashish had turned their house into an illegal depot, where other accused kept their stock of foreign liquor. The excise team also seized more than 18,000 litres of raw spirit used in making illegal liquor on Feb 14, sources said.Palamu deputy commissioner Sameera S has asked the excise superintendent to launch a crackdown against bootleggers ahead of Holi.
