The actor had already been in critical condition for the past 5 days following a cardiac arrest. He passed away in the early hours of January 4 while he was admitted to the Soon Chun Hyang University Seoul Hospital.As per reports shared by Korea JoongAng Daily, on December 30, the ‘Slimido’ actor was taken to the emergency room after he choked on his food and collapsed all of a sudden. He was directly admitted to the intensive care unit, where he had been receiving treatment for the past five days. The famed actor’s funeral processions will be held at the Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital in Seocho District, southern Seoul. He leaves behind a legacy of iconic films and dramas, and was known as one of the most talented actors of his time.

Ahn Sung Ki was born on January 1, 1952, and has been active in the entertainment industry since 1957 as a child artist. From an early age, he was exposed to the world of films as his father was a well-known filmmaker from Daegu. Over the course of the past 60 years, Sung Ki worked in more than 150 films and was well-revered for his acting skills on the big screen. His debut role came with the film ‘The Twilight Train.’ He worked in over 70 films in his childhood, after which he took a step back to pursue a more normal life. He came back to acting and proceeded to build a career for himself after completing his education at Hankuk University, as well as working for a few years in a company. Some of his most notable works include ‘Hansan: Rising Dragon’, ‘Unbowed’, ‘Hanbando’, ‘Mandala’, and ‘Two Cops.’

In 2022, the actor revealed to the world that he had been diagnosed with cancer in 2019. He had been declared cancer-free a year later in 2020; however, tests confirmed that his blood cancer had come back after his remission. Even though receiving treatment, the actor continued to work. His last project was ‘Birth’ in 2022. He was also cast in another film titled ‘ Spring in Seoul,’ however, not much information was released about the upcoming feature.
