Bihar is gearing up for a security revolution, with the implementation of cutting-edge AI-driven CCTV cameras across the state. This advancement comes hand in hand with a decisive action against predatory ‘gunda banks’ that have been fleecing residents with outrageous interest rates.

Patna: Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary said on Wednesday that AI-based CCTV cameras would be installed across the state soon to strengthen the security.He also announced a crackdown on the illegal activities of ‘gunda banks’ (fraud banks) in the state, stating that the govt’s top priority is to put an end to the unauthorised lending system where money is lent at exorbitant interest rates, often forcing people to mortgage their land. Choudhary said that only banks authorised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would operate in Bihar, and there would be no place for ‘gunda banks’.He said AI-based cameras will be installed on a large scale to modernise Bihar’s security system.“More than 10,000 cameras are being installed in all jails in Bihar. Cameras will be mandatory at railway junctions, cities, intersections, and entry and exit points of cities and panchayat areas,” he said.Addressing the gathering after distributing appointment letters to stenographer sub-inspectors at Sardar Patel Bhavan in Patna, the minister said implementing rule of law by leveraging technology is the govt’s priority. Under the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar, the process of govt appointments has been continuously running in a transparent manner since 2005. In the last five years, more than 11.5 lakh youth have got govt jobs.He said, “Currently, the sanctioned strength of posts in Bihar Police is 2,29,651. This year, 21,391 constables are being appointed and trained. Written examination for 19,838 constable posts is completed, physical examination will start this month, and selection will be completed by March 2026.”Training of 1,218 officials of the sub-inspector category is about to be completed at Rajgir Academy. Advertisement for appointment to 1,799 posts of sub-inspector has been published. Training of 19 DSP selected by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) is going on, he added.He directed that all SPs should regularly hold public hearings in police stations and ensure a speedy trial of heinous cases. He said that mafia of any level will not be spared in Bihar.
