AI in movies financially sustainable, but it doesn’t shape them: Shekhar Kapur | Goa News

Date:

Panaji:Kapur said AI, being the most democratic technology to date, has permeated into filmmaking, allowing professionals to hone their creativity through prompting. “Every new technology brings its own set of apprehensions. When sound was introduced in the movies, everyone said movies will be dead because films are supposed to be silent. A similar fear was when films went digital. AI is going to be a new medium of creativity,” Kapur said, speaking at ‘An Eurasian Festival Frontier – Redefining Cinema in the World of AI’.Kapur, however, said using AI for filmmaking will be a lonely experience as the technology would help them cover most components of filmmaking. “Imperfections are beautiful. That’s where real stories are built upon. We take those imperfections and we navigate through them to make a harmony among them,” he said.Kapur said the AI tools don’t shape the movies; the art and the craftsmanship do. “There is an organic beauty in the unpredictability of moments. There’s an electric atmosphere on the movie set, which AI can’t replicate. It can’t duplicate complex emotional ranges and mannerisms which actors display physically. AI doesn’t understand the pupil of the eye. The actor makes a subconscious connection with the audience through their eyes, which is not possible for AI to generate,” he said.
