AJ Styles finally returned to WWE on SmackDown last week. His return came after a three-month hiatus from WWE TV. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned for The Phenomenal One. Styles took the ring and began to reflect on his career, he even went as far as to say he would redefine his legacy but was rudely interrupted by Carmelo Hayes.
Hayes took a few digs at Styles, and then LA Knight also came out and asked the two to fight for a shot at his title.Immediately, a match between AJ Styles and Hayes kicked off, and that’s where it all went wrong for AJ. During the match, Styles had an awkward landing after a high-flying maneuver and reached for his knee.
He finished the match, but did so with a limp, and it was clear to see that Styles had injured himself again. Now, according to a report by Dave Meltzer, Styles’ injury was actually real and not part of any storyline. Unfortunately, Styles will have to spend another term on the sidelines following his three-month hiatus. Let’s take a look at what’s next for AJ Styles.

Where does AJ Styles fit in upon his return from injury?

Moments before he got injured, Styles displayed a good amount of interest in LA Knight’s United States Championship. Moreover, he even beat Carmelo Hayes during their match, which makes him worthy of a shot at the title. So it is quite possible that Styles will challenge LA Knight for his title when he makes his return from injury.
As things stand, AJ is set to undergo medical examinations to determine the extent of his injury. Once more details are known, we should get a timeline for his return. This is quite a major setback for Styles, but the fact that he was able to finish his match against Carmelo Hayes is a positive sign.
If AJ had picked up a serious injury like an ACL tear, chances are that he wouldn’t even be able to walk out on his own, let alone beat Carmelo Hayes in a match. So, there is still some optimism regarding the state of his injury.
