Alpha Release Date: Alia Bhatt and Sharvari starrer ‘Alpha’ heads to theaters; the makers reject a Rs 215 crore OTT deal- reports |

Date:

After Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’, speculation arose about ‘Alpha’ skipping theaters for OTT. Starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor, the makers denied the rumors, confirming a theatrical release. Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha is set for April 17, 2026, connecting to War 2 and YRF’s expanding spy universe.

After the release of Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar,’ many people started talking about the spy movie ‘Alpha.’ The film stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, with Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor playing important roles. There were rumors that ‘Alpha’ might not release in theaters and could come out directly on an OTT platform. These talks began because some felt that, after Dhurandhar’s huge success, another spy movie in the same style might look old or repetitive. But now, the makers have made it clear that ‘Alpha’ will definitely release in theaters as planned.

The makers respond to Alpha’s streaming rumors

According to a report by Variety India, the makers issued an official statement addressing the ongoing rumors: “Alpha is going to stream directly (is a rumor that) aims at putting a heroine-fronted film in an unflattering light. Yash Raj Films will never put films from its theatrical slate directly to streaming. We are a studio that takes immense pride in making cinematic experiences. Alpha is a tentpole movie for the company.

Alia Bhatt Goes Gaga Over Yami Gautam’s Haq Role, Calls It One Of Her All-Time Favourites

The statement continued: “Alpha is our attempt at trying to mount something incredibly special. With one of the finest actors of our country, Alia Bhatt, headlining the film, along with another brilliant young actor, Sharvari. We are hopeful that we have made a good film in Alpha and it will entertain everyone and prove that audiences will give the same amount of love to this film as they shower upon other action movies.

‘Alpha’ linked to Rs 215 crore OTT deal rumors

Reportedly, the maker had struck a major deal with Netflix India, estimated at Rs 215 crore, to release ‘Alpha’ directly on the platform. Despite the buzz around the supposed agreement, they have clarified that the film is headed for a theatrical premiere and not a digital debut.

Alpha’s release date and ‘War 2’ connection

‘Alpha’ was first planned to release in December 2025, but the date was later changed to April 17, 2026, as the team needed extra time for visual effects work. Still, this new date might also shift since Salman Khan’s ‘Battle of Galwan’ is expected to release the same weekend. The makers of ‘Alpha’ will likely aim to avoid a box-office clash. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film was first hinted at in the post-credit scene of ‘War 2,’ featuring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, with Bobby Deol appearing in a short cameo.
