The family dispute over late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s will has taken a fresh twist. On Wednesday, his mother, Rani Kapur, revealed that she hasn’t been left anything in it. The will is already being challenged by Sunjay’s children and his ex-wife, Karisma Kapoor, who claim it was forged by his third wife, Priya, to take over his assets.
Rani Kapur’s claims in court
At the court hearing on Wednesday, Rani Kapur said there was something “incredibly unholy” about the will.Rani Kapur told the court that she has been left with nothing from her son Sunjay Kapur’s estate. She explained that despite sending several emails asking about the will and related documents, she never received any information and was instead told her emails had been hacked. Her side argued that assets worth around Rs 10,000 crore, which she believed would go to her, were instead placed in a trust. At 80 years old, she now feels abandoned, with no home or security. They also raised concerns over how quickly things shifted in favor of Sunjay’s third wife, Priya Sachdeva, just months after their marriage.
Karisma’s children move court
Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira Kapur and her 15-year-old son, have approached the high court to claim their share of the late Sunjay Kapur’s assets. The court has also officially registered their plea.The plaint states that Sunjay never spoke about leaving behind a will, and neither Priya nor anyone else ever mentioned its existence. It further alleges that Priya’s actions clearly suggest the will has been fabricated by her.
Priya Kapur’s response
Priya told the Delhi High Court that the two children had already received Rs 1,900 crore from the family trust and questioned why they were seeking more.Priya’s lawyer opposed the children’s claims in court, telling Justice Jyoti Singh that it’s not as if anyone has been left without support. The lawyer also argued that even though the will wasn’t registered, that doesn’t make it invalid. The court issued notice to Priya and posted the matter for October 9.
