Anurag Kashyap reveals ‘Bombay Velvet’ was made for Ranveer Singh; says producers ‘sold it on the basis of Ranbir Kapoor’ |

Date:

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently disclosed an intriguing behind-the-scenes twist for his highly ambitious project ‘Bombay Velvet.’ Originally, he had envisioned the film starring the charismatic Ranveer Singh. But as the budget ballooned, it became clear that Ranbir Kapoor would be the fitting choice for the lead.

Ranveer Singh is enjoying the massive success of his recent release, ‘Dhurandhar’. This, once again, sparked comparisons between Singh and Ranbir Kapoor. Both the actors are considered the current generation’s superstars. The contemporaries of Bollywood had faced their ups and downs to reach where they are now. For Ranbir, one such box office disappointment was Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’. And recently, the filmmaker revealed that the movie was made keeping Ranveer Singh in mind.

Anurag Kashyap says ‘Bombay Velvet’ was made for Ranveer Singh and not Ranbir Kapoor

In an interview with SCREEN, Anurag Kashyap shared, “The film was not a high-budget film initially. It was sold at a very high budget, and it took me time to get around to that and to the change of actor.”

The ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ director further added, “Earlier, when I wrote it, it was for Ranveer Singh. He was much fresher then. But everybody sold it on the basis of Ranbir, and the actor changed.”The filmmaker added that it took him almost a year to wrap his head around the change and get back to his senses.

In the same interview, Anurag Kashyap shared that the process of working with a different actor when he had imagined someone else in the role was “terrific.” He said, “When you write something thinking of one actor and then have to work with another, it takes time.”The filmmaker expressed that “Ranbir himself is a great actor; there was no issue there.” He added that it was him who was just wrapping his head around the fact that he has to work with another actor. Kashyap said, “And it was terrific. Ranbir’s commitment was terrific. He is literally a dream actor to work with. Once I wrapped my head around that, we started working, and it was a terrific time to create the film.”
