Anurag Kashyap reveals he was surprised that Rahul Dravid knew about him: ‘The fanboy in me came out’ |

Date:

In November last year, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap delighted fans by sharing a deeply personal moment on Instagram, a selfie with his childhood idol, former Indian cricketer and coach Rahul Dravid. The chance encounter happened at an airport. The filmmaker turned actor shared this photo on social media and wrote, “Met my hero on a flight @rahuldravidofficial.” Now months later, in a recent interview, the filmmaker revisited the memory as he opened up on this fan moment. Recalling how the interaction came about, Kashyap explained that he almost missed spotting Dravid altogether. He said during a chat with Mashable “I was on the same flight as Dravid but I was sleeping, so I didn’t see him. When we got off the flight, we were in the same bus. And then I saw him, and I was gobsmacked. The whole fanboy in me came out. People were taking pictures with him, and people were taking pictures with me, and I just wanted all of them to go away so that I could take a picture with him.”What made the moment even more memorable was Dravid recognising him. Clearly overwhelmed, Kashyap shared, “And when he said, ‘All the best, and thanks for all the work you do,’ I was like, oh, he knows me. For him to know me is very special. He’s literally the hero, the wall.” He also narrated a light-hearted moment that followed the selfie. “And then when we went to the steps, he ran up the steps, and I was taking the escalator. I was like, ah, there goes the sportsman.”Apart from cherishing such fanboy moments, Kashyap has also been vocal about his views on cinema. Recently, he shared his thoughts on Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’, praising the film for its scale, ambition and unapologetic mass appeal. He said, “I have known Aditya Dhar since his national award film film Boond. It’s his politics . Genuine politics . Agree or disagree with it. Man is honest. Not an oppurtunist like others. Either you argue with him or let him be. Fimmaking is top notch. If you love The hurt locker, zero dark thirty or house of dynamite. They are Oscar winning propaganda films about the USA. I ignored the two propaganda dialogues and loved the filmmaking and stubbornness of the film maker. And Ranveer Singh being my favourite performance. So secure. if I as a filmmaker have to argue about the politics of it, I will call Dhar. But significant film!”
