Assam undertrial prisoner found dead in water body after jailbreak

GUWAHATI: An undertrial prisoner, who escaped along with four others from Morigaon district jail in Assam on Friday night, was found dead in a water body on Monday, police said. SP Hemanta Kumar Das said villagers informed police about a body in the water body, which police retrieved and identified as Abdul Rashid. Das said they sent the body for postmortem.
Rashid and the other four, all charged under the Pocso Act, escaped from jail by breaking open the iron grille of their cell, police said.The other four escapees are still on the run and a search is underway to arrest them, police said.
