Bollywood’s most ambitious film yet, Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic, ‘Ramayana’ has once again captured the attention of fans after a BTS photo from the sets was shared online. In the picture, featuring Kunal Kapoor and Navneet Malik, the two actors were seen with special cameras used in the latest cutting-edge visual effects technology. While the film was previously touted to adopt the latest tech and visual effects, this was the first photos seeing the actors with the special motion-capture suits and dots on their faces, reminiscent of Hollywood blockbusters like ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers’.

In the photos, Kunal Kapoor features in the motion-capture gear, adding intrigue to his role of Indra Dev in the film. Another cast member, Navneet Malik, also drew attention after his photo from the ‘Ramayana’ set surfaced online.
James Cameron on sharing ‘Avatar’ VFX technology with filmmakers
Most recently, director James Cameron made use of motion technology for his film ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, which went on to hit the USD 1 Billion mark at the box office. Speaking about his film and the technology used, Cameron told ‘Varanasi’ director SS Rajamouli, that special focus should be on enabling the next generation of creators to create films. He shared, “I think we should reduce the barrier of entry of young people coming in as filmmakers, VFX, maybe generative AI can help with that. Democratise the tools and let more people do the kind of films that we are doing.”
‘Ramayana’ release date
This excitement comes as the film positions itself as one of the biggest and most expensive Indian films ever created, and one that will be on par with international standards. Fans only got a tease of all that was in store when the first teaser dropped online which included Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash.The first instalment of ‘Ramayana’ is slated for a Diwali 2026 release, with the second part planned for Diwali 2027.
