‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ to release in theatres on January 16, bringing back Ranveer Singh’s debut with Anushka Sharma |

Date:

Yash Raj Films will re-release the 2010 hit ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ in theaters on January 16, bringing back the romantic comedy that launched Ranveer Singh opposite Anushka Sharma. The film follows a fast-paced story that traces ambition, friendship, and romance amid lively Delhi wedding festivities. It also uses nostalgia to help today’s viewers connect with the time it first captured audiences.

What audiences can expect this time

According to NDTV Movies, the film revolves around a “sparkling story of ambition, love, and friendship, set against the vibrant world of Delhi weddings,” as stated in a press release shared with the media. The story follows two business founders who launch their company with restricted financial resources while they support their family’s needs and career growth during the capital’s wedding season.

Maneesh Sharma directed ‘Band Baaja Baaraat,’ which released on December 10, 2010, and went on to become one of the defining Hindi films of its decade. The film served as Singh’s first acting role because he appeared with Sharma in a production which combined commercial elements with authentic storytelling. The director applied his directorial abilities to develop a narrative which shows characters who chase their aspirations through various obstacles.

Fan favorite when it launched

Sharma has said the project was born from a modest starting point. “I had read a magazine piece about young Indian entrepreneurs, and something stayed with me—people with limited resources still stepping out, taking risks, and trying to build something of their own, even on a small scale,” he said in a statement.“That became the seed of the story. The project evolved into a movie that explores three core themes of love, friendship, and ambition through its authentic and unpolished depiction of urban life. Sharma explained that the film continues to attract viewers because it has developed its own existence, which appeals to people from various age groups and locations at different stages of their lives. I am really looking forward to seeing people loving our film that was made with a lot of heart again on the big screen.Niharika Bijli also described the film as one of the rare films that never loses its charm. She said, “It remains fun and immensely relatable, no matter when—or with whom—you watch it.” Bijli stated that the film’s re-release serves as our homage to modern storytelling because it continues to captivate viewers across various times. The film shows genuine friendship, love, ambition, and life through its musical numbers, its authentic comedic scenes, and its natural character depictions.
