BHOPAL: Allegedly denied treatment, a 55-year-old farmer died outside the doctor’s residence at the Amanganj Community Health Centre in Panna district on Tuesday evening. The villagers erupted in protest after receiving word of his death, accusing the block medical officer (BMO), Dr Ashish Tiwari, of being drunk and negligent. The deceased, Ajay Pal Singh, a resident of Daharra village, reportedly fell ill around 7 pm on Oct 21 after complaining of severe stomach pain.His family rushed him to the Amanganj CHC for treatment. However, despite being on duty, Dr Tiwari was allegedly not present at the hospital. Doctor reportedly intoxicated; family waited 35 minutes The family then knocked on the doctor’s official residence seeking urgent help. According to the deceased’s nephew, Sujay Raja, the family stood outside the doctor’s quarters calling for assistance.They had medicines and injections with them. The doctor’s wife reportedly came out thrice, but he never responded. The family waited for nearly 35 minutes before the farmer succumbed at the doctor’s doorstep. Not till the farmer dropped dead at his threshold did the doctor finally step out, the family alleged, adding that Tiwari appeared heavily intoxicated and, instead of helping, began arguing with the deceased’s son, Rajau.Enraged villagers gathered at the spot and demanded the doctor’s suspension and criminal action.Upon receiving information of a flare-up, Amanganj police reached the site to bring the situation under control. Acting on the directives of Collector Usha Parmar, the doctor was removed from his post for alleged criminal negligence. The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), too, ordered a preliminary inquiry into the incident.Officials said based on a complaint by the family, an FIR was registered against the accused doctor.
